Opus won the following awards:
Gary Chalmers, Technical Principal, Ports and Marine won the Dobson Award for Transportation Infrastructure. Gary is internationally recognised for his work in port asset management and development, and design of underground structures. He is an innovative leader across many engineering fields, encompassing risk management; asset management; strategic planning and seismic design.
William Gray, Central Region Service Excellence Leader won the Turner Award for Professional Commitment. William is an outstanding Engineer who has made significant contributions to many of our road infrastructure projects in New Zealand and overseas. He has held many roles in his 35 year illustrious career, demonstrating great technical leadership within Opus and in the wider construction industry.
We also have three new Fellows of IPENZ recognised:
Sulo Shanmuganathan, Chief Technical Officer - Sulo has been a leading designer on a range of major bridge, rail and civil structures in New Zealand and Australia for many years. As a practitioner of extremely high competence, she has consistently contributed to engineering institutions and the wider industry and has received professional recognition with various awards and fellowships. Sulo was appointed Chief Technical Officer in 2011. Her technical excellence is without question and she brings a level of passion and energy that is inspirational and motivational.
Rex Corlett, Principal Engineer, Rural Services - Rex has been with Opus throughout his career. He has been a long-standing IPENZ member and a stalwart of the Southland Branch having been on the branch committee continuously for the last ten years. Rex is currently our national client manager for DairyNZ and he is highly respected for his expertise in the dairy infrastructure area.
Philip Chalk, Principal Infrastructure Engineer - Philip has a background in a wide range of civil engineering projects, mainly transport and water related. He has extensive experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and has a deep understanding of how infrastructure assets are planned, designed, maintained and operated. Over recent times, he has taken this capability to the UK where he has been working with Network Rail as a Strategic Asset Advisor.
